On Wednesday the 15th of August, the Level 1 geography class went on a field trip to the proposed site of the Tegel Chicken Farm in Arapohue, here we looked at the site, the natural and cultural features and took notice of the waterways around the site. We then travelled to Ararua to the Te Rata Organic free range chicken egg farm, here we saw how organic free range chickens live, and what it takes to raise them. This was a contrast of the Tegel broiler methods of raising chickens so it was important that the students see what is possible. Our current internal assignment is on the local issue and debate on the proposed Tegel broiler farm in Arapohue, this trip was a great opportunity to see the site, visit an actual chicken farm and for the students to gain a better understanding of the topic.
